My question is: Is leaving the dishwasher hooked up with the water on for any length of time bad for the pipes or even the dishwasher itself?

Here's my situation: We have what seems to be a semi-old portable dishwasher. It hooks up to the kitchen faucet and plug in the power and off you go. For one, our water pressure is nothing to write home about. For two, how is this any different than the water being shut off? Aren't the pipes always under the same pressure anyway or is there some magical switch that when you turn the water off it shuts it off at the exit point AND somewhere else? Also- the dishwasher has a red button to put to release water directly from the faucet out the dishwasher's hookup.

This is old, and it does leak, releasing some amount of pressure that the system may be under. All in all, the only thing I want to know, is am I in any danger of blowing anything up or bursting any pipes?

The danger is in the faucet, not the pipes. The faucet was never designed to be under the full system pressure the way it is when a dishwasher is connected. If your faucet has a side spray hose, it is see more susceptible to bursting, because its hose is not a high pressure material. The connector leaking does nothing dishwasher reduce the pressure, as long as the faucet is turned on, because the water lost is being continually replaced. Edited 1 times.

Portable dishwashers only have as much pressure as the faucet they're connected to, so there isn't any danger of too much pull being made on the faucet. Dishwasher is no more water pressure going into the unit than hookup is going through the faucet without it being hooked up so that isn't a problem here.

In my opinion, you can leave the unit connected after the wash and rinse cycle finishes for as long as you want, the unit stops the flow of water through valves only opened when it's running. As per the button, it's use is for when you've disconnected the washer and need to fully empty it for transport and storage. It probably leaks due to a faulty seal, replace the seal and you'll be fine. Au contraire, dishwasher ami.

Our top picks:

A faucet in normal operation sees almost no pressure at any point outward from the stem or cartridge. But with the DW connected and hookup running, the entire faucet body, spout seals, shaft seals, etc.

They are not designed for this, and portable long term hookup is a potential problem. Now, people have been doing this for years, and I have not personally seen a disaster here, so this discussion may be more theory than reality, but all the points raised by the responders in this thread are valid.

If portable think that the pressure in a free flowing faucet is the same as one with a closed valve on the spout, then you need a course in basic hydraulics. Without the dishwasher, the only backpressure is caused by the aerator, a flow restricted one creating a bit more resistance than a fully open one.

With the dishwasher it is subjected to whatever pressure the city is supplying.

The research

One refutation of your advice is that NO manufacture of a faucet with a pull out spout will guarantee it if a dishwasher is connected to it. The internal vacuum breaker, and the hose liner especially, are not intended for that amount of pressure. My thinking is this, he's asking if it's alright to leave it hooked https://passive-income.info/dating-sites-are-for-losers.php for a few hours overnight after running, not permanently which in turn would lead to any problems, not to mention block access to the sink.

So I say, yeah, it's fine to leave it connected after the cycle has finished as long as he doesn't leave it permanently connected until the end of time. What's the difference? IF it is going to break, it could happen tonightjust after she turns out the lights, or this time next year after she turns out the light. Search for plumbing parts on our sponsor's site:.
